Facebook: how to lose friends and irritate people

Last night I thought it was time for a little check to see if any old friends were on facebook that I’d love to catch up with- Iam, as people know a rather strong advocate for social networking

So I merged my gmail account with my facebook account, and selected around seven people I wanted to catch up with more. It then gave me an option to send out an invitation to the over thousand people on my gmail contacts that have NOT got a facebook book.

Absentmindedly I clicked no….. only realising a split second later that what I actually HAD done was send it out to them all.

disaster. The worst thing is as I’ve invited them, I don’t need to ok them as a friend- they are automatically accepted if they agree to from the application.

I had five important business meetings today- they all got the email. I’ve had ex’s join- only to have me say I am going to unjoin them…. I have people who I have NO idea who they are, other than that we’ve emailed once… try to become my friend.

In short, it’s a frigging nightmare- and a PR for me as a person disaster.

The best thing about all the dating and networking advice I give? I can tell you now- I give it from my OWN mistakes…. and boy has this been another one of them!

uh oh, not so flash… haha.

I nearly did that once. It’s stupid because like you say it adds people you’ve emailed once. Maybe someone you sold/bought something to/from on trade me?!

Hope you can catch & delete all the unwanted’s :D

This is one of those RARE occasions when you wish facebook was more like microsoft “Are you sure you want to do this?” Yes “Are you really really sure?” Whoops NO!

Od dear , have seen someone do something similar when bigprimate was still threefootsix

The marketing person sent out an email advising a change of email address , Instead of Bcc’ing all she sent to all , hence those of us on the list ended up with some very private email addresses we shouldn’t have had . Will say I deleted immediately but in the wrong hands it could have been a disaster , to this day i am still not sure if she realizes she did it I didnt have the heart to tell her
As bronnie says it would be good if sometimes you had a “are you really really sure!!” even in life this would be handy for.. could have used it for some previous relationships :o )

Oh i wondered why I got that request!
At least i guess you will have hundreds of friends on facebook now :/

Just a thought, can you email people at facebook and ask them to remove all friends added in the last 24 hours? It shouldn’t be too hard.
    Good luck sorting it out!

Oh no, not good! Sometimes you just wish that you could undo an hour or so.
