Stepping out of our ‘comfort zone’
So how do you feel about your comfort zone?
Do you enjoy doing new things and constantly push yourself or would you rather stick to what you know??
Everybody has a comfort zone, it’s an invisible sphere of activity which we feel comfortable doing. Our comfort zone is a constant environment in which we feel happy and secure.
In order to achive more in life and go after our dreams we need to expand our comfort zones. By doing this we also expand our joy zone, love zone and experience zone.
Whether we stay inside our comfort zone or constantly push to expand it has a direct effect on our lifestyle, friends and achievements.
The easiest way to increase our comfort zone is to gradually expand it rather then taking great leaps. For example if you have never spoken in front of an audience – say 500 people, to do this for the first time would probably be a very scary experience. If you slowly built up to this, began speaking to 10 or so people, then 50 and continued to ‘practice ‘with growing numbers, you would still attain your goal but with far less discomfort.
So ask yourself, how can you expand your zone?
Here are a few ideas:
Take lessons in something you’ve always wanted to do
Try some new exotic food
Do a bungee jump
Go diving
Learn to swim
Give a talk on a topic your passionate about
Ask for a pay rise
Meet new people
Change jobs
Learn to dance
Of course, if you are already doing these things, doing them again will not expand your comfort zone. The secret is to go out and do something, which is new, and a challenge for you!
