BOOK REVIEW: Knotted by Michelle Holman

I spoke at my first (and hopefully not my last!) Books and Bubbles event held by Paper Plus on Friday. We were speaking in Christchurch and it was a wonderful night. it was funny to realise it was the first time meeting of me, Kerry Woodham and Wendyl Nissan when we all live quite close to each other in Auckland. I really enjoyed meeting Jo Bennett though our girl talk in the green room got him a little nervous beforehand (nothing a beer couldn’t fix! :) )

However a highlight for me was meeting Michelle Holman. I’d interviewed her by phone about one of her previous books, and was looking forward to hearing about her new book. In fact I was itching to get hold of it so had to dip out to a paper plus store first thing on Saturday so I had something to read on the way home on the plane. I finished it last night and LOVED IT.

Good chick lit is awesome. Good New Zealand chick lit is even better. I cried in a few parts, and my heart raced during some of the more “intimate” moments. I actually blushed a few times as I felt a wee bit embarrassed at how effective Michelle’s sexy bits were written- which is ok when you don’t know the writer, but once you’ve met her I did think- wow, she’s kinda good about writing about sex!

The book was bitter sweet for me- I tend to find books relating to people with kids meeting someone who slots into their life with relative ease always a little awkward to read, probably because it’s be great to see that in MY life, but it was a lovely book. And had a great message about breast cancer too- perfect for breast cancer month.

Highly recommended- and thank you Paper Plus for putting us two together- she and I may just become future partners in crime!

Oh- and I’m a big fan of books that are under 30 dollars. It makes it a great value read! Thanks Harper Collins!

    Great review, Rachel.

This is a terrible book. Americans can’t dress and he criticises her dress sense (pg 333, proves it denim shirt n jeans…NO!), a stereotypical Irish mammy, a leading lady who’s never grown up, whose only defences are violence and name-calling. Just a weird, ill-characterised, boringly predictable book.
