Catching a glimpse of your “other life”

1723306491_64b831605f_mI was thinking this morning about the two lives we lead- the one we live every day, and the one we thought we’d be living if things were different. Sometimes I feel moments where those two lives cross over and I catch a glimpse of the “other” life with is a little less stressful and a whole lot more glamourous than this one! :)
I get the feeling that I’d be missing out a little on some lovely life bits if I had the perfect one however. And what would I lose out of my life now- to gain that life I think is so good?

Below is a poem I wrote a while ago- on and about my favourite beach, and how I love how walking down it is about walking in my past, my present and my future. All there, resident in the same space.

Takapuna Beach

Time rings no bell of age in dreams
The years have caught between two seams
The sand has captured every realm
Past rides with future at its helm

Tomorrow’s run in silent cries
Beware the watcher and her mind
She’s built the castles in the sand
And watches them destroyed by man

Languished waters edge beside
My ghosts first dance, but then subside
Both past and future beckon me
Lost in the shade of melancholy

My childhood shouts from children’s cries
The laughter’s peal before my eyes
The buckets, spades and sandy feet
The weary mother watching me

I once dreamed fame as I did run
My hope was just another one
Framed in their moving imagery
I made the cut but was young to see.

The first love’s hand was held right here
Within the dark and secret air
And stomach’s butterflies were set
Upon this very parapet

I’ve raged along this straightened shore
And angered heaven’s sheets downpour
Drenched by the bitter rain’s release
And spied the victor’s revelry

Love has taken me before
And laid me down upon its shore
Its sandy salty lick has come
And left all cleanliness undone

A battle raged upon its end
Fences torn, embattled friends
And promises made that wore me down
Foundation built on sandy ground

Alls washed again from dawn to dusk
The shells have turned and found their cusp
And left a crunch beneath my feet
Both past and future beckon me

Sun sets, I’m smattered with sun’s rain
The footsteps are washed clean again
Chinese whisperers scrape at dust
And lovers argue sorry’s blust

The strongest voice will find me still
It’s in the whisper, in the thrill
My feet have walked in parallel
And met the ghost I know so well
