GIVEAWAY: Win a copy of my book Mountain Men

mountain men by rachel goodchildI know I’m best known for Eighty Eight Dates- but I wrote a couple of others before that.

Mountain Men is the most beautiful book I’d ever written and I loved researching it- talking to strong, taciturn and lovely old men from New Zealand’s High Country. I have such a respect for the men in this book- and it was a huge privilege to write it.

This book makes a great gift for expats, dad’s and people who love the great outdoors- so if you win you’ve got one less present to buy!

So- to enter- tell me…. If you are a girl- do you go for southern men, or welly boys, or urban jungle Aucklanders? And men if you would like a copy- tell me which kinda guy you think you are.

Entries close Friday 20th November 5pm

There are THREE copies to giveaway (If you want it signed let me know!)

I went to Lincoln University so it was prerequiste to like good southern ‘sheppard’ boys who generally drove utes and loved their dogs only slightly less than their mums! Ended up married to a millitary man but he has the same great qualities!! :-)

  2. Jo Crawley says:

I like Southern Men, well in my mind I do since I never met one yet but they sound goooood!

  3. robd says:

I’m a “taken” southern guy, sorry.

  4. Rachel Goodchild says:

NEVER apologise for being taken! :)

  5. Chris says:

It doesn’t matter where the man comes from. The sort of man I ‘go for’ is one who not only respects me and my values, but respects himself – someone who has worked out just what matters and what doesn’t and who doesn’t sweat the small stuff.

  6. Lucy says:

At the moment I think any #allwhites would be the male pick for all of NZ! 15 minutes to go boys – do us proud!!!

  7. Annemarie says:

A country man,one that loves nature, animals, laid back attitude and a heart of gold,I know they are out there

  8. Chris says:

Would love to win this book, but I’m taken by a wonderful and special man,

  9. Chris says:

Im taken by a wonderful and special man, but I would still love to win this book to give away.

  10. MiriamS says:

Hi Rachel, wow what an amazing book! I’d love to win it… ever since I emigrated to New Zealand I have been impressed by some of the rugged southern blokes (like a different species almost to the ever groomed Europeans) as well as some of the charming witty urban men, the fact is I came here with my wonderful husband who I love to bits :) He’s intelligent, ehtical, hardworking, a babe and has a sense of humour. I can’t see why single friends have a challenge finding the right guy though: you kiwi blokes, you are lovely. ;)

  11. Marise says:

A Welly Boy has my heart, but he was born overseas, so not sure what he is. Other than a fabulous soul, with a warm smile and a giving heart. Maybe it doesn’t matter where they come from, but who they grew up to be.

  12. Amanda says:

I like practical and reliable DIY type guys who can fix stuff around the house.

  13. I married a good loving, strong, and intellegent Southern man. He loves his family and respects me and his parents. This is the kind of man I like.
I love reading about strong mountain men to add to my dream fantasies of strong women pitted against strong men. Any story that takes place in NZ already has my heart.
    Thank you for your consideration.

  14. Lee says:

Thanks for the inspiration Rachel. I might leave this urban jungle dwelling and go find my mountain man!

  15. Lee says:

I forgot to let you know… If I am one of the lucky winners, please do sign my copy thank you.

  16. Di says:

I’d love to win this book – I do like Southern men but I definitly have a fondness for a man in a nice suit and tie – so I guess if he worked in the city during the week and did the country thing on the weekend it would be a perfect mix – now if only I could find him :-)

  17. L Hammond says:

Southern man and Im taken have been for many years would love this book for my Mum who lost her hubby of 52 years he was defiantly a strong country shepard all his life until he retired.

  18. Julie says:

Strong, rugged but able to have a decent conversation.

  19. Robbie says:

Well…. I’m a man from the Wild West Coast and there is nothing better than striking another Great Southern Man! Love em a bit rough around the edges, gruff and tough. Grrrr :) *licks*

  20. Louise M says:

    southern men definately

  21. Bella says:

Up until late 20s, my boyfriends were always high country farming men, I was a good loyal farmer’s daughter! But once I moved to Wellington I ended up with a man in a suit… Still love the farming lifestyle though!

  22. Dee says:

My type of man would have to be a southern farming man – I’ve been married to one for decades!

  23. Donna says:

give me a ruggard southern man over a city slicker any day a ruggar man can always get the job done :)

  24. VickiR says:

I like Southern men – was totally smitten when I worked with Greg Cooper @ Speights, and they are just more practical than Jafas.

  25. bren says:

I would love a tough ruggered southern man

  26. More Please says:

The well-rounded Southern man is, to me, much more desirable than the pin-stripe suited commuter. This book is about real New Zealand males and is a showcase of very real New Zealand landscapes.
