My idea of a romantic date?
one where my husband and I are both attending, and my kids aren't climbing over me, pulling my hair.

I would love to pick up my fiance from home and blindfold him then drive somewhere we hadnt been before , maybe a really lovely park or beach,

lead him to a table and chairs area and then unfold a picnic basket of homemade/handmade treats of his favourite foods , a nice bottle of something cold to drink ,
then take his blindfold off so that he could see the view, and the food. Using only our fingers feed each other , enjoying the place and each other and just spending quality time with each other

With a small budget in mind you can do wonders.

Way before Valentines day, head out and buy the perfect card that expresses everything you feel, when filling it out include a sweet and simple poem that you've made up (eg - Roses are red, Violets are blue, Everytime you're around, I fall back in Love with You.) I like rhyming ones and find a word to rhyme with their name for a personal touch.(eg for Linda last two lines could read - your eyes are like sun on water shimmer, I love u more each day Linda).
Then -
Go online (or find a book in store/Library) on Origami, Use pink and red paper and make a bunch or Origami Roses/Flowers for your special person.
plus -
using flowers from your garden (or ask 1st - a neighbours/friends/family) make a nice bunch of flowers, use some more of the flowers and pick all their petals off to spell out "I Love You" - take a photo of that
and on valentines day include the photo in the card
or just txt-pic it to them or e-mail it
add to that -
buy a block of dairymilk chocolate and buy a choc-mould of hearts and make your own chocolates, using a small box decorate it with some of the pink/red paper left over from the Origami - make your Own Box Of Choc's, scatter some left over petals inside it as well (to tie everything together)
....On Valentines morning
give them your card - with a message inside to go into the kitchen/lounge
where everything else is waiting for them
or
just simply hand-deliver the Paper-flowers and box-choc's to their work place

A nice sleep in, not having to get up for anything and then a slow morning with a trip on the passenger ferry to romantic Russell (my boyfriend and I's special place) for a picnic on the beach and a nice wander around the town, just enjoying each other's company and spending the day together. Later on, snuggle up and watch a movie together and play a game or something fun that makes you laugh.

The most romantic date would be whale watching on a raft on a moonlight night drinking hot chocolate and eating marshmallows

i also love rosebuds idea, that is gorgeous! after being together for 15yrs recently marrying on our 15yr anniversary, id be quite happy if my husband remembered anything, lol. So for me just acknowledgement and a hug would be quite nice, lol.

I was asked me to hide an engagement ring in chocolate to be served as desert at a restaurant dinner where he intended to propose. I came up with this idea: I hulled out a strawberry, put the ring in and replaced top of strawberry, sealed it with chocolate then dipped it in chocolate. I made 1 dozen of them with different piped chocolate patterns and the one with the ring in I piped a heart on top in contrasting chocolate colour so he knew which one had the ring in.
