About Rachel Goodchild
The only moment you’ll see Rachel pause for breath (in general!) is when you ask her what she actually does. Because it’s a teeny tiny bit complicated. Which bit of her life does she tell you about?
Here are the main parts!
PRESENTER
Rachel runs regular seminars for Educators and Corporates on a range of different topics, from building better relationships with colleagues and clients, to providing a better programme for children under five. She has a background in education in both Primary and Early Childhood and has written twenty-three educational titles, with quite a few of them best sellers in New Zealand, Australia and the UK.
She is currently the relationship commentator on Breakfast (look out for me between 8:30 and 9 on Thursday mornings)
Attendees of her seminars comment positively on her energy, her delivery and her ability to tailor the seminar to target exactly what people want to know.
AUTHOR
In total Rachel has written twenty seven books, (see above). The Joy of Reading was published by a Malaysian Publisher, and the last three books have been with Penguin New Zealand: She’ll Be Right about farming women in New Zealand, Mountain Men about men in New Zealand’s High Country, and Eighty Eight Dates, a collection of funny internet dating stories on the topic of “how to internet date”
She is currently in negotiations for a new book- watch this space!

WRITER
It all began from a pep talk to a friend – Rachel decided to follow her own advice. Since then she’s been a prolific contritbutor to magazines all over New Zealand and beyond.
She’s currently a regular contributor to Treasures, Parenting, Totstoteens, City Central Magazine, NZ Woman’s Weekly, NZ Projects Magazine and Business Today. She is also working part time as the content editor for More FM and The Breeze
Rachel is the good advice dispenser on JJ Feeney’s Radio Chick website
Her fortnightly parenting column has been running in Malaysia’s Sun Newspaper for five years. She was also a regular contributor to www.gdo365.co.nz for three years.
She has written for Next, The Listener, Her Magazine, M2 Woman, M2 Tech, M2, M2 Auto, Joy, Kiwi Parent, Playcentre Journal, She, Malaysian parenting magazines, Australian Parenting, Holidays for Couples and probably several others she’s not noted down!
Freelancing career highlight so far? Appearing in seven magazines on the news stand in the same week- some under pseudonyms as there was fear she was going to be over exposed!
SOCIAL NETWORKER
Rachel has spent the last four years using, testing and observing social networking sites including forums, message boards, facebook, twitter, blogs, and email marketing. She is passionate about free or very low cost methods to get a message out and is a huge convert to the benefits of social networking. For her it is about establishing and living within community and the rules, while different, often follow similar patterns to “real life” interactions. She is a compulsive twitterer and uses both twitter and facebook for her both her business and unwinding times. She uses alot of social networking techniques for the few select PR clients she works alongside with.
MOTHER
The Goodchild girls are part of her team. Rachel has three girls aged 3, 6 and 8 who she has raised by herself (though with the help of amazing family, friends and babysitters!) for the last three years. Much of the advice shared on this site is from learning from her own experiences, and from the hundreds of people she’s interviewed every year as a freelancer.
